I was helping some guys to get sa-mp to work. Most of them had other Modifications installed or used SA 2.0.

Contents

[edit] Playing samp with Windows Vista

1) Install San Andreas as usual.
2) After installation, navigate to the folder you installed SA:MP (default: c:\program files\rockstar games\gta san andreas\)
3) Right click on gtasa.exe and go to "Properties".
4) Click the "Compatibility" tab, change the compatibility option to "Windows 98 / Me", click OK.
5) Download and install SA:MP as normal.
6) Install the browser fix for SA:MP (click here, directions are in that thread)
7) Play!

[edit] Reason why San Andreas crashs after the San Andreas Logo

This has been reported very often by users, which forgot to put there DVD into the DVD drive before connecting. Whenever you want to launch SA-MP, be sure your DVD is in correct drive!

[edit] If you see only VINEWOOD sign

You can't play San Andreas Multiplayer if you have installed one of these two version. Get you an original 1.0 gta_sa.exe to play online.

[edit] San Andreas V1.1 and V2.0 is not supported!

You can't player San Andreas Multiplayer if you have installed one of these two version. Get you an original 1.0 gta_sa.exe to play online. This is very hard, because, you have original gta and you dont have 1.0. Downgrade it!

[edit] If it says 'INVALID CHARACTERS' while connecting!

This happens if you use invalid characters (don't know which this are), but the most common problem is, that the maxcharacter value is transgressed. The playername must have a maximum length of 16 characters only. Allowed letters are 'A-Z', 'a-z' '0-9' and '_', spaces or any other letters arent working

[edit] If it says 'Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:xxxx' ... and nothing happens!

This can happen, if the server is already offline. Just test another server. Also verify that you allowed gta_sa.exe and samp.exe through your firewalls.

[edit] If normal game loads! No SA-MP is there?

Be sure you start sa-mp.exe. If you did this, reinstall SA-MP and select your GTA-Directory as INSTALL-Folder, everything else will not work. Sa-mp.exe must be located where gta_sa.exe is after installation.

[edit] 'samp' isn't a supported protcol

This is NOT a standard feature of SA-MP yet. Please download this url-extension to get support for samp-urls like samp://81.169.180.114:7777 for example.

[edit] If samp://-links won't work in board

samp://-links aren't supported by the Boardsoftware yet. Use a service like tinyurl.com and put in your samp://81.169.180.114:7777 , it will return something like http://tinyurl.com/gw6nd and this is accepted by the board!

[edit] Mods are not supported!

No. They will make your game buggy and crashing while playing with guys, who don't have the mods installed. Handling.cfg-modifications are ignored by sa-mp-client.

[edit] Bad files, make the client crash!

This is how your SA-Directory SHOULD look like. Delete all evil d3d9.dlls and other dynamic link libraries!

[edit] Connect to your own server

If you have a router you can't connect via your internet ip. Use 127.0.0.1:7777 instead!

[edit] Connection rejected

This happens, if you have two GTA San Andreas versions. You have to set sa-mp to the right GTA SA folder, or just delete the other version.
